Ty Pennington tells Paige, Michael, and Ed, this week’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition Design Team on ABC, that they are going to help the family of a true hero - a veteran of Operation Desert Storm! Jeff Cooper was exposed to toxic chemicals while overseas, and has Multiple Sclerosis - he is in a wheelchair. Jeff is limited physically, but fights back by advocating for disabled veterans. Wife Clara stays home with Jeff, so her life has changed as well. There are two children in the Cooper family, Windy, age 16, and Aaron, age 13 - their home is deteriorating due to water damage.
Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s door knock day at the Cooper home is both exciting and poignant, as Jeff’s children tear up to hear Ty Pennington thank their father for his hard work on behalf of disabled veterans in the United States. Ty tells the family they will be going on a trip to Washington D.C. while the renovations take place on their home. Jeff and Clara show Ty the inside of their home, which has a lot of problems structurally. They also have issues related to Jeff’s disabilities, such as Clara trying to get him in and out of the bathtub safely. Jeff tells Ty that he wants to see his children graduate, and wants his wife to be taken care of - and see her have a room like a five-star hotel!
Windy tells Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s Paige that she has already enlisted in the National Guard, and that she really enjoys dirt bike riding! Clara shares her love of log cabins and country with Michael, and Aaron, who lost one arm in an accident, discusses the related difficulties with Ed.
John Norse, the builder for this week’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition renovation, says that Jeff Cooper fought for the freedom of other Americans in Operation Desert Storm, and now they’re going to give him his freedom back! Via video, Ty Pennington delights the Cooper family in Washington by declaring ‘war’ on their old house! As Ty yells, “Fire!” cannons fire at the house!

As the volunteers help put the house together, Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s Paige test rides a dirt bike as she decides what to do for Windy’s room! Ed, meanwhile, heads to the Sheriff’s Department in the back of the squad car in order to get inspiration for Aaron’s law enforcement themed room!
By Day 4 on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Michael demonstrates how the house is coming together and will be so much more accessible for Jeff Cooper with his disabilities. Paige visits the local disabled veterans chapter and contacts the Cooper family via video. The veterans with Paige thank Jeff, and Paige announces that CVS Pharmacy has donated $40,000 to the chapter! Jeff sobs, saying, “That’s carry them for years!”
As Ed thanks the nearby cotton farmer who donated field space for Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s supplies, Paige explains that they are making a log cabin-style home for the Cooper family, but the logs are actually filled with foam, which reduces the number of trees used and insulates well! Ty Pennington calls Jeff Cooper and tell him that he is going to meet Colin Powell while he’s in Washington D.C.! Jeff is overwhelmed as he shakes the hand of Colin Powell, who presents him with a Secretary of State Coin, which is a tremendous honor!

As work on the house finishes up, Paige wheels a new dirt bike up the hallway, and Michael polishes the old cannon outside! Soon, it is time to welcome the limo carrying the Cooper family home. The war veterans and volunteers clap as Ty asks if they’re ready to see what’s behind that Extreme Makeover Home Edition bus! The entire family cries uncontrollably as the new house is revealed - Clara calls it a ‘dream come true’. The Coopers thank John Norris, the builder, then Ty tells them to go check out their new house!
Inside, the Cooper family marvels at the open concept and country-style dÃcor of their new Extreme Makeover Home Edition home! Ty Pennington comes in and points out that the kitchen is accessible for Jeff so that he can help cook! Windy sees her new room, and is blown away by the black and hot pink dÃcor and most especially by the new silver dirt bike! Aaron is astounded by his law enforcement themed bedroom, complete with blue flashing light - he comments, “Ed, you’re the man!”
Jeff and Clara check out their ‘five-star’ master bedroom, and tell Ty that it’s beautiful. Jeff says that it’s what Clara deserves. Ty explains that the bed actually has two separate mattresses with functions such as back massage! In the ensuite bathroom, Jeff can now use the shower and tub on his own as well! Michael then comes in with a new, motorized chair for Jeff - it will also allow him to stand! Michael mentions that the tub lift and chair were provided by CVS Pharmacy. Jeff gets in his standing up chair and shows off for his kids - Windy is overcome at the sight of her daddy coming into the room upright! Ty gives them the Extreme Makeover Home Edition ‘welcome home’ to end the show.
