American Idol: Carly Smithson Joins New Band ‘Fallen’

Remember Evanescence? If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard from them in awhile it is because founding vocalist Ben Lee left the band during their European tour for the album Fallen.Ben stated hisreasonas creative differences. Since then, lead vocalist Amy Lee has continued on her own, which left the rest of the band wandering aimlessly throughout musicland. That is, until they found Carly Smithson.Now the formerAmerican Idolhas teamed up with the remaining members of Evanescence to forma new band Fallen.

“We began looking for our soulmate, which we were scared was going to take a long, long time,” founding guitarist Ben Moody told the Los Angeles Times blog Idol Tracker. But they found Smithson, who called the offer “pretty awesome.”

“I’m excited to be able to completely jump out of the box,” she said. “The Idol thing, you know, was very PG, it was for a family audience , I’ve never been more happy than being in this band.”
