Maksim Chmerkovskiy Is Glad He Won’t Have To See Karina Anymore

Although there were rumors that Maksim Chmerkovskiy and former fiance, Karina Smirnoff, might be trying to work on their relationship, it appears that things are finally over. Maksim recently told PEOPLE that he is happy to be off the show so that he no longer has to cross paths with Karina!

It has been reported that Maks was a bit uncomfortable with how close Karina and partner Aaron Carter were becoming outside of the show.  Aaron attempted to squash those rumors by announcing that he had a crush on dancing pro Chelsea Hightower, however, a source told PEOPLE that is completely fabricated.

“That’s so funny. Everyone [at the show] knows that’s not true. That’s Karina trying to manipulate things to take attention off her and Aaron,” said the source.  ”[Chmerkovskiy] had hoped they could work things out.”

Last Wednesday, Maks told PEOPLE, ”I feel completely betrayed. I’m done.” Of course, Maks wouldn’t go into detail about why he feels betrayed… he left that up to our imaginations. ”I don’t want to get into the specifics,” he continued.  ”Let’s just leave it at I’m done.”

Karina, on the other hand, has a slightly more positive outlook on the situation. ”At this moment, we’re happy to be where we are,” she added.

Dancing With The Stars kicks off Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
