Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Hill Family and Xzibit!

On ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition this week, Ty Pennington and the design team visit Suffield, Connecticut to help the singing Hill family. The family consists of 13 members - parents Bill and Katherine took in 7 nieces and nephews when Katherine’s sister was deemed unfit! They love to sing and dance to gospel music in their house, which is not big enough and is falling apart. Rapper Xzibit, who is volunteering this week, joins Ty and the design team.

Didiayer, Michael, Xzibit, and Ty arrive at the the Hill family home and incredible excitement ensues as they are called outside and told they are going to Walt Disney World on vacation!

As they go through the house, Ty and the gang realize that the children, who are all older, are crammed into rooms, with some having to actually sleep on the floor and/or couches. A closet has been converted to an extremely tiny washroom, and in order to take a bath, one must heat water on the stove and carry it in. The basement is completely flooded with water that has built up due to the water beneath the ground - it’s unbelievable.

The Hill family is given the opportunity to see the huge crowd of volunteers and to meet the builder before they are whisked off on their vacation. Ty informs Michael that he will be doing the dining room this week, and they joke about having to work together. Xzibit takes great delight in helping to destroy the existing home (and not get in trouble for it), and soon the excavator comes in and finishes the job!

The next day, outside, Xzibit and Ty are watching the foundation going in for the new house - Xzibit is amazed that Extreme Makeover Home Edition can do in one week what would usually take months! Didiayer is planning the girls’ rooms, and Michael and Ty fake bicker over the dining room design.

In Walt Disney World, the Hill family is break-dancing with Mickey Mouse. Ty calls and asks them to choose between small, medium, and large - they pick large. Ty hangs up and hollers, “Large coffees for everyone!” He then gives Didiayer a challenge - design a project using the wood from the former bunk beds and some water-damaged books. Xzibit goes to test an LED light-up floor for one of the rooms.

Xzibit and Michael hit the Old Country Store and go head-to-head over the décor for the new Hill family home. Xzibit calls ‘Mike’ a force to be reckoned with! Down in Walt Disney World, the Hill family learns that they will be performing at the House of Blues that night - and it will be recorded so that the volunteers on site can watch! Indeed, the volunteers are asked to come out front that night, where a huge screen has been erected. They cheer, dance, and applaud as the Hills perform This Little Light of Mine!

The new home is finally ready for furnishings, plants, and final touches. It isn’t long before the limo containing the excited Hill family draws up alongside the bus. The family emerges and the crowd launches into chanting, “Move that bus!” The Hills go ballistic when they see their new home, and they thank Kent Pekoy, the builder, who is touched by the whole experience.

Ty invites them to check out their new home. The thirteen family members race through the new place, shouting, jumping, beaming, and clapping. Ty comes in and draws their attention to the dining room table he made, which incorporates thirteen different table legs to represent each family member. Ty then tells them to go see the rest of the house.

The boys’ area completely overwhelms them, as does the privacy they will now enjoy. Xzibit really ‘hooked them up’, and proudly shows off the interactive play wall! The girls check out their new spaces - they love the yellow beds and flashy accessories. One of the girls has a chair made out of the old bunkbeds and books! Katherine and Bill check out their new master bedroom and bath - Katherine jumps into the huge clawfoot tub and kicks with joy! The Hill family also has a cookout area in the backyard, which sits beside their new basketball court. Ty tells the Hill family that a local college has provided scholarships for all of them! Katherine gives a heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the project. Ty says, “Welcome home, Hill family, welcome home.”
