Last night was elimination night on So You Think You Can Dance on FOX and after the solo performances, we had to say goodbye to 2 more dancers as we get closer to the top 10. After dancing for their lives, we watched as Channing Cooke and Kevin Hunte were sent home. Listen to what Channing and Kevin had to say about their experiences on the show, and what their plans for the future are.

First up for the interview was Channing Cooke:

Question: Adam hit on something Tues, as artful as your performance was it didn’t have an emotional impact on the audience. What are your thoughts on that?

Channing Cooke: Tice was trying to do something different and go with a different choice of music. I thought it was a cool dance and the choreography went well with it. Everyone has their own opinion and we had fun with it.

Question: Can you tell us a little bit more about being the national lawn tractor champion?

Channing Cooke: There was a contest in my home town run by Kmart kids against drugs. My dad took my brother and I, and we had to ride around a track. I didn’t actually win, I came in 14th place. I was about 7 or 8 at the time.

Question: What did you think of Nigel’s comments that you were in the bottom 3 because America could not connect to you?

Channing Cooke: Everyone has their opinions. It is just like what the show puts across, what America saw of me is not all of me.

Question: During your partnership with Phillip, he mentioned that some of the lifts were difficult, what were your thoughts on the lifts with Phillip?

Channing Cooke: It was tough. I felt at times I probably could have lifted him instead of he lifting me, but we figured out how to use my strength to aide in some of the lifts.

Question: As a dancer was it fun to get into a quirky character during your performance?

Channing Cooke: It was definitely fun because it takes dancing to another level. It is fun to watch because people can get into it with you.

Question: Do you have any winner predictions?

Channing Cooke: I have my predictions, however this is something you can’t truly predict because things can happen that you just don’t expect.

Question: What should have done differently?

Channing Cooke: Gotten my face in the camera more and shown people more of myself. They only give you so much time to do so, and I should have jumped in front of the camera often.

Next up, it was Kevin Hunte’s turn for the interview:

Question: You started dancing at 14 as opposed to most of the others who started around 3 or 4. What got you into dancing?

Kevin Hunte: Basically for me growing up and watching Michael Jackson inspired me to get moving and do my thing. My mom enrolled me into dance school. When I got a taste of the industry, I decided to pursue my technique in hip hop. I auditioned on So You Think You Can Dance in season 3 and got to green mile.

Question: What styles are you formally trained in?

Kevin Hunte: hip hop, ballet and modern. I had the privilege of joining a contemporary company in Brooklyn. I haven’t had any real classes though.

Question: What were the most difficult dances for you to learn on the show?

Kevin Hunte: Besides the cha cha and hustle, broadway was really difficult because it took me out of character.

Question: After Nigel said your solos were not up to par last week, did you raise your game?

Kevin Hunte: I loved my first solo, I told myself next time dance your heart out like you always do. I loved my second solo as well. All that matters is how you feel about it.

Question: With the judges’ comments about your growth, were you already thinking of what you would like to do next week?

Kevin Hunte: I was thinking about that. I was wanting contemporary so I could let go and show that a hip hop dancer can get the whole contemporary feeling. I was excited about working with the choreographers for contemporary. I really really wanted to do contemporary.

Question: What’s next for you?

Kevin Hunte: Auditioning, Auditioning, Auditioning. I hope to get into movies, modeling, get some campaigns and print work. I am the kind of person who doesn’t stop. So You Think You Can Dance was a stepping stone to get my career started.

Question: Do you have any advice for Victor about Karen, since they will be paired up now?

Kevin Hunte: Oh yes. If he ever feels tired or hurt or just not up to it, he better get it together real quick because she is no joke. The best thing that I loved about her is that she always adapted to whatever style we got. I told Victor be ready because she’s fierce and non stop.

Best of luck to both Channing Cooke and Kevin Hunte, we will miss you both!

Be sure to tune in next Tuesday at 8 pm EST to So You Think You Can Dance on FOX to watch your top 12 perform. See you after the show.
