Welcome back to Reality TV Magazine! This action packed episode had Sharoud Moore [ School Teacher, 5' 11", 205 lbs] in blue facing off against Adam Levin [Shark Fisherman, 5'9", 175 lbs] in red for the men. For the women Belinda Gavin [ Rodeo Bull Rider, 5' 7", 130 lbs] in blue competed against Monica Carlson [ Fitness Model, 5' 7", 120 lbs] dressed in red.
Sharoud and Adam were first to face the gladiators in Power Ball. Mayhem, Titan, and Toa lined up to keep them from getting to the canisters. Right out of the gate the action was quick and competition fierce. The Gladiators gave no mercy keeping the contestants from getting to the canisters with relative ease. Adam was taken down and landed hard on his left knee, but got up hobbling to get another ball. Getting to the area he went into the ball holder, collapsing to the ground stating he was out. Sharoud continued on facing three opponents. Adam got up, grabbed a ball, and started towards a canister where he was taken to the ground. And that was all she wrote for Adam Levin. The medics came into evaluate his knee. Titan did come over and tell the prone Adam that he was a true fighter, encouraging the crowd to applaud for him. Each contestant scored two points before time ran out. The women also competed in Power Ball as their first event. Facing Stealth, Venom, and Crush, they were more successful then the men in getting to the canisters. The gladiators held Belinda to four points while Monica managed to score 6. The competition was strong but not as physical as the men had been this time.
Due to the injury sustained by Adam Levin, Andy Konigsmark [Youth Minister, 5' 10", 185 lbs ] was called in to replace him. Stepping right into battle, he faced Titan in Joust. He did not back down to the large gladiator giving Titan a good beating with the Pugil Stick. Titan gave back as good as he got, failing to knock Andy off the platform. Andy did take a swim when he took a misstep and fell off into the water below. Sharoud stepped up next and when the whistle sounded he went after Titan with no mercy. The gladiator managed to get in some solid hits, but Sharoud dominated this competition. Nearly knocking Titan down, he missed an opportunity when the gladiator turned his back trying to keep from going off the platform. A few seconds later he landed a solid shot that sent Titan for a plunge. Sharoud earned ten points adding to his lead. The ladies followed in Joust with Venom taking the platform. Belinda aggressively went after Venom making the mistake of stepping onto Venom’s platform. This earned her a disqualification after she sent Venom into the water below. Monica was no less aggressive when she faced the gladiator. She quickly sent Venom into the water below earning ten points.
Hit and Run had Wolf, Titan, Toa, and Mayhem trying to remove the contestants with the demolition balls. Sharoud made short work of this event completing four trips and just missed completing the fifth as time expired. Ducking under the demolition balls he managed to avoid several near misses including completing his second trip without having to dodge anything! Andy also completed four trips just missing completing the fifth. While he did not manage a single trip without having to dodge the demolition balls, he did manage to keep on the bridge after a glancing blow to the head. Each man earned four points for their effort in a very close contest.
Hellga went after the women with her cannon in Assault. Monica was first into the fray dodging the gladiator’s first shot getting to the first position. Firing the slingshot she missed the target and started to the second position. On the way Hellga hit her with a well placed shot and Monica’s trip through the course came to an end. Belinda was next into the course easily getting to the first position. Getting off the shot despite a barrage of tennis balls she missed the target. Getting to the cannon she quickly loaded and fired sending Hellga backwards into the water in a burst of smoke. Belinda is the first contestant to hit the target this season. The ten point award put her right on Monica’s heels in the point total. The men faced Justice in Assault, their last event, with Andy testing his luck first. Andy got through the first position and on to the second quickly. Missing both times he ran to the third position and searched the sand for the arrow. Finding it he tried to make it to the crossbow but was hit on the way. Sharoud did not fair well. At the first position he misfired the sling shot not getting the tennis ball launched towards the target. Getting to the cannon he turned the protective shield the wrong way giving Justice an open shot which ended his chances.
Pyramid was the final event for the women, Belinda faced off against Fury, Monica paired with Crush. This event quickly became one sided when Monica took Crush to the bottom of the pyramid from about half-way up, and scrambled up the pyramid to the top before Crush caught back up. Grabbing her foot to pull her back Monica shoved Crush back down the pyramid. Getting to the top, and hitting the button, she earned herself ten points and an important lead. Belinda gave it a good fight with Fury making her almost a non-contender for this event.
Going into the Eliminator Sharoud had a four second head start over Andy. Getting up over the wall and into the water first he struggled when swimming under the flames. Andy quickly made up the time going under the fire with ease getting to the cargo net first. After that it was all Andy. Getting down the barrel roll and past the hand bike he made quick work of the balance beam. Sharoud got across the hand bike without falling and over the balance beam. Andy was up the pyramid and sliding down the zip line while Sharoud navigated the balance beam and started up the pyramid. Hitting the travelator he got nearly to the top before he fell, but fought his way up and over the top. Andy completed the course in two minutes, four seconds with Sharoud finishing the course several seconds behind him. Andy goes on to be in the running for the final eight.
Monica went into the Eliminator with a six and one-half second lead over Belinda. Grabbing the top of the wall, not using the rope, Monica pulled herself over the top and into the water. Belinda was right behind her getting over the wall and nearly caught up during the underwater swim. Going up the cargo net Monica got to the top with a slight edge over Belinda. Getting to the hand bike both contestants fell while trying to get across, Monica getting up and over the balance beam first. Belinda’s fatigue soon showed as she got out of the pit when Monica was nearly up the pyramid. Monica made short work of the zip line and travelator finishing the course in two minutes flat, and well ahead of Belinda.

American Gladiators returned to the airwaves last week with two episodes. This week, Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali are once again back as hosts, as two more male and two more female contenders face off in competition.
In this episode, a soccer mom takes on a rodeo queen, as mother of twins Monica Carlson battles against Rodeo Pro Belinda Gavin. For the men, it is shark fisherman Adam Levin going up against High School teacher Sharaud Moore. Adam Levin lost his home during Hurricane Wilma.
According to NBC, this episode will be one of the hardest hitting episodes to date with the gladiators showing increased ferocity. American Gladiators airs on Monday, January 14, 2008 from 8PM to 9PM.
Welcome back American Gladiators aficionados! Tonight boasted another night of furious competition between Jeff Chapman [Radiation Control Technician, 6' 4", 224 lbs] and Adonis Lockett [Engineer, 6', 196 lbs]. For the women Christie Philips [Karate Instructor, 5' 7", 130 lbs] squared off against Siene Silva [Gymnastics Instructor, 5' 4", 127 lbs].
The first event for both men and women was the Gauntlet. The men were first to compete against the gladiators. Titan, Mayhem, Toa, and Justice defended to keep the competitors from getting past them. In blue, Jeff was the first to take them on. Battling past Titan, Mayhem, and Tao, he came up against Justice. Managing to get past him, Jeff did not manage to get through the wall to score the full ten points. Adonis, in blue, took his turn at the gladiators. Adonis got past the first three gladiators coming up against a real challenge in Justice. Managing to get past him and into the grey scoring area, Justice continued to block him, forcing backwards into the course. Time ran out leaving Adonis with eight points and tied with Jeff. It was decided by the referee after review of the event that Justice had barred Adonis’ after he entered the scoring zone. This competitor was awarded the full ten points as a result. The women were next up pitted against Venom, Stealth, Siren, and Hellga. Christie, in red, took to the course first, fighting past Venom and managing to get past Stealth with ease. After working to get past Siren, she was held up by Hellga who used her pads well to hold Christie down until time expired earning her six points. Dressed in blue, Siene took her turn at the gladiators, having no trouble getting past Venom, Stealth, and Siren. Hellga managed to hold her up, but Siene overcame the last gladiator to get past her and through the wall for the full ten points.
The men next took to the Wall. Jeff was matched with Toa while Adonis was pitted against Mayhem. With a seven second head start, Jeff quickly started up the wall gaining ground on his fellow competitor. Mayhem gained on Adonis easily, and grappling with him briefly, managed to pull him off the wall and into the water. Jeff managed to remain out of Toa’s grasp gaining ten points when he made the top of the wall.
Joust was the second event for the women facing Crush with the pugil sticks. Christie put up a good fight but was quickly overmatched by the gladiator. Her only reward was a quick splash when she landed in the water after being knocked off the platform. Siene faired only slightly better, using the tactic of going low into an almost sitting position to battle Crush. She nearly managed to outlast the gladiator before a solid shot knocked her into the water.
Earthquake pitted Adonis and Jeff against Militia on the moving twelve foot platform. Jeff, called Big Country by the Hulkster, went right at Militia as soon as the whistle sounded. Grappling with him, he nearly lost his footing a few times before taking Militia down with a wrestling move. While the gladiator tried to get the upper hand, Jeff took him off the platform with him, earning the full points for the event. Adonis gave a good showing, grappling with the large gladiator who finally managed to get a neck hold on him. As they went over the edge of the platform, Militia grabbed one of the supporting ropes, and managed to swing back up to the platform while Adonis landed on the pads below.
Venom faced off with the women in Hang Tough. Christie went first, swing out towards the far platform on the rings. Coming at Venom, they locked legs in what resembled aerial wrestling more then gymnastics. Venom let go to grab Christie around the neck, ultimately carrying them both into the drink. Siene’s gymnastic background certainly showed when she faced off against the gladiator. Swinging out she avoided contact with Venom handily. The gladiator tried to get a hold of her but with a quick swinging move, got onto the platform and a reward of ten points.
The men were next up in Hang Tough facing Wolf. Adonis swung out first managing to avoid being grabbed by Wolf. Moving around him, just as Wolf was going to get to him, Adonis made a diving move to the platform. Just beating the gladiator he earned ten points for the event. Jeff came right at Wolf, swinging to him while the gladiator made a grab for him. Holding on to Jeff for a moment, Wolf lost his grip allowing the competitor to get away. Getting past Wolf, Jeff managed to get his feet onto the platform but did not have enough momentum to get fully on before Wolf grabbed him from behind. His reward to a bath in the water below, being taken down with Wolf.
Assault challenged the women next with Fury manning the tennis ball cannon. Christie managed to make it to the first position and fire the sling shot which missed. While moving to the cannon at position two, she was hit in the thigh which ended the competition for her. Siene’s attempt to defeat the gladiator with the slingshot was also unsuccessful. Scrambling to position two, she managed to load and get the cannon shot off. Missing again, she peered around the barrier and made a dash for the sand pit. Just short of the pit, she took a hit from Fury’s cannon.
The Eliminator was the final event. The men faced off first with Jeff having a four second head start over Adonis. Quickly getting over the rope wall and into the water on the other side, Jeff maintained a good lead. As he finished the barrel roll and started over the hand bike, Adonis gained the top of the cargo net. Falling from the hand bike, Jeff gave Adonis a chance to make up some time. The deciding obstacle was the travelator. Both competitors falling down the incline several times before Adonis finally made the top finishing with a time of three minutes, forty seven seconds. The women’s run gave Siene a seven and one-half second head start. Going up the rope wall and under the fire, she was starting up the cargo net while Christie was still swimming under the fire. Siene fell from the hand bike having to climb out of the pit while Christie was coming down the barrel roll. Fighting her way up the pyramid, down the zip line, and up the travelator, she won in a time of two minutes, twenty-two seconds moving on to the next round of competition.
This was another great installment of this reborn classic! Tune into Reality TV Magazine to get the highlights of next Monday’s episode! Thanks for reading!
The rebirth of American Gladiators opened tonight with the Hulkster. bringing his usual charisma to the rebirth of this 90′s show, along with Laila Ali, the events were everything one would expect. Starting with the introduction of the new breed of Gladiators, and the field of contestants arrayed behind them. The two hour premiere had two sets of competitions instead of the usual one on its regular Monday night show.
Each competition pitted two men against each other as well as two women. The first set of men tonight pitted Chad Knight [Professional Skateboarder, 5' 10", 180 lbs] in blue against Anthony Abbatemarco [FDNY Firefighter, 5' 10", 190 lbs] in red. For the women was Jessie Adams [Sales Rep, 5' 5", 140 lbs] in blue competing against Koya Webb [Life Coach, 5' 10", 145 lbs] in red.
The first event pitted Jessie and Koya in Powerball. The goal is to put as many balls as possible into 5 equally spaced canisters while avoiding three gladiators who stand in the way over the course of one minute. Each ball placed in the outside four canisters scores two points, while putting a ball into the center canister scores three. Facing Siren [Valerie Waugaman, 5' 9", 145 lbs], Venom [Beth Horn, 5' 8", 142 lbs], and Stealth [Tanji Johnson, 5' 2.5", 123 lbs] the women’s competition began. The gladiators put up a fierce defense only allowing Koya to score six points and keeping Jessie to two points. During the course of the game Jessie was tackled into a wall by Stealth resulting in a knee injury which took her out of the competition. She was replaced by Venus Ramos [Rehabilitation Doctor, 5' 4", 125 lbs].
The men then competed in Powerball against Titan [Mike O'Hearn, 6' 3", 251 lbs], Toa [Tanoai Reed, 6' 3", 240 lbs], and Wolf [Don Yates, 6' 4", 225 lbs]. Again, the gladiators put up a very strong defense but Anthony dominated the competition with twelve points in comparison to Chad’s two points.
The next event for the women was Joust. Each competitor faces off against a gladiator on platforms placed fifteen feet over water. Each has a pugil stick and the goal is to knock the other off their platform. The time for this event is 30 seconds. Both women faced Crush [Gina Carano, 5' 8", 141 lbs] with Venus being first to fight, lasting 10 seconds before being knocked off into the drink. Koya put up a better showing, at one point knocking Crush down and managing to keep her off balance. She managed to avoid being sent for a swim, and earned 5 points when time expired.
The men then competed in Hang Tough. This pits each competitor against a single gladiator where they must travel from their platform to the opposite platform via rings suspended by ropes from the ceiling before the one minute timer expires. First up was Anthony against Militia [Alex Castro, 6' 3", 220 lbs] who he defeated easily. Militia suffered an arm injury during this event, being replaced by Wolf. Chad did not fair so well versus Wolf, ultimately getting stuck hanging from a single ring, wrapped up by Wolf who took them both into the water. Sadly, the best part of this competition was watching Chad’s young son cheering him on from the stands.
The woman next competed in Earthquake. This event puts them one on one with a gladiator suspended above the arena floor on a 12′ diameter platform that moves while they are engaged in hand to hand fighting. First up was Venus pitted against Fury [Jaime Kovac, 5' 7.5", 148 lbs]. Fury quickly flipped Venus over in a body slam, but was unable to get her off the platform. Venus managed to hang on and earned 5 points. Koya went after Fury, nearly taking her off the platform, but at the last second Fury grabbed on of the ropes supporting the platform, sending Koya flying past her to the floor, and allowing her to swing back onto the platform.
Hit and Run is a new game for this version of American Gladiators. Each contestant runs across a suspended bridge while four gladiators try to knock them off with 100 lb demolition balls. Each successful trip across the bridge, not being knocked off, scores 2 points up to a total of ten. The gladiators for this event were Toa, Justice [Justice Smith, 6' 8", 290 lbs], Wolf and Titan. Anthony dominated this event, completing five trips to score the maximum amount of points. He nearly was knocked off once, but managed to duck under the near miss, and continue on. Chad completed his first trip across the bridge with little trouble. On the way back across for the second trip, he ducked under one demolition ball, standing up just in time to take a solid hit knocking him off into the water.
The final competition before the Eliminator was the Pyramid. The goal is to get past the defending gladiator and make it to the top. Doing so earns the competitor ten points if they can hit the button at the top. Getting half way up into the scoring zone earns five points. The women were up first with Venus pitted against Venom, and Koya having to get past Crush. Each one of the women were tossed down the pyramid with Venus managing to get into the scoring zone but no higher. Venom got her by the foot keeping her from making it to the top. Koya did not manage to get to the scoring zone.
The men were up next, with Toa defending against Anthony, and Mayhem matched up against Chad. Anthony nearly managed to score the ten points when Toa dived at him, and went over the top when Anthony ducked, giving him a straight shot to the top. Toa managed to scramble back up and latch onto a leg, keeping Anthony from hitting the button. Chad was handily kept out of the scoring zone.
The final event was the Eliminator. Based on scores from the first four events, the person with the higher score earns a one-half second head start for each point they are ahead. In this head to head competition, each person must cross a small bridge, climb a rope up over a wall, dive off into a pool of water on the other side, swimming twenty feet under fire. The next obstacle is a thirty foot cargo net they must climb. After rolling down a small incline climbing to a barrel, each person must cross a span using a hand bike to a balance beam. They must then climb a pyramid, to then slide down a zip line to the travelator. This is a moving walkway going down an incline that each person must get up, with the aid of a rope they can grab half way up. Then bursting through a wall to win. This is a very physically challenging course. At the end of this competition, Venus won despite starting behind Koya, completing this course in two minutes, ten seconds. Anthony started with a commanding sixteen second head start when the men faced this course. Chad competed hard, making up the deficiet but found the travelator his downfall. Anthony completed the course in two minutes, twenty two seconds.
The premiere of this show pitted a second set of competitors! For the men Molivann Duy [Student, 5' 7", 155lbs] in blue competed against Jeff Keller [Ad Sales, 5' 11", 208lbs] in red, who incidentally nearly made it onto American Gladiators in 1994. Shanay Norvell [Youth Counselor, 5' 5", 141 lbs] in blue was pitted against Bonnie Blanco [Marine Corps Veteran, 5' 7", 138 lbs] in red for the women.
The first event was the Gauntlet. This event places four gladiators trying to block the competitor from getting past them and pushing through a wall at the end of the run before the 30 second timer expires. The gladiators either have large pads on their hands, or a large padded bar, to help them. The men were first into the gauntlet against Wolf, Tao, Titan, and Justice. Molivann was first, managing to get past Wolf, Toa, and Titan. However, Justice managed to hold him keeping Molivann to six points. Jeff, after some trash talking to Wolf, jumped the gun rushing into the gauntlet before the whistle to start. Being sent back, he had to start again. Once the whistle sounded, Jeff got past the four gladiators but did not manage to get through the wall being held to eight points.
Shanay was first for the women, facing Venom, Siren, Fury, and Hellga. Wasting no time, she fought past Venom, Siren, and Fury. She had no problem with Hellga, slipping past her with great ease, and then through the wall for the full ten points. Bonnie went into the gauntlet with a lot of energy, getting past Venom. Siren held her but ultimately was taken to the ground as Bonnie barreled past her, and Fury. Hellga managed to take Bonnie off her feet, but she forced Hellga back and got past, to get through the wall also scoring ten points.
The Joust was the next men’s competition. Both men facing Mayhem, this event was very anti-climatic. In the first round, Molivann faced Mayhem first giving a good showing against the much larger man. Mayhem stepped on Molivann’s platform which was an instant disqualification giving Molivann the full ten points. Jeff was next up, and showing the cockiness he exhibited in the gauntlet, they went at it. Again, Mayhem stepped onto the other platform for his second disqualification and ten points to Jeff. Turning his back to Mayhem to celebrate, Jeff quickly found himself pushed over the side and into the water.
The Wall event has each competitor against a single gladiator. They are given a seven second head start before the gladiator comes after them. The goal is to climb a rock wall and gain the top before being pulled off the wall by the gladiator, or kept from gaining the top by being held. First competitor to the top earns ten points, while the second competitor to the top is awarded five points, with a one minute timer. Shanay was matched with Venom while Bonnie was pitted against Stealth. Bonnie very quickly scaled up the wall gaining a good head start on Stealth. Shanay was not quite as quick up the wall, having less of a lead on Venom. Stealth never quite managed to overtake Bonnie, managing to grab a foot briefly, before Bonnie scrambled over the top to a ten point award. Shanay was caught briefly by Venom but managed to break free to earn five points before time expired.
Assault has been reworked from the original show. The goal being to hit a target from one of several positions while dodging 100 mile per hour tennis balls being shot at them by a gladiator. Justice was the gladiator manning the cannon for this event. Jeff was first in this competition, managing to get to the first position and fire the slingshot, missing. Scrambling, he got to the second position where he had to load a cannon and fire it. He missed badly with this shot and was hit by Justice going for the sand pit. Molivann was next fair no better. He missed with both the slingshot and cannon, and did manage to get to the sand pit. Digging in the sand for an arrow, he couldn’t find it so decided to head to the fourth position, the crossbow. He was hit by Justice here, and not having the arrow could not have loaded the crossbow anyway.
The women were pitted against Fury in Hang Tough. Bonnie was first into this competion, getting a good start but being locked up by Fury. Using her signature move, the “Suicide Squeeze”, Fury tried to pull Bonnie off the ring. Holding on, she ultimately managed to drop Fury into the water after she tried to get Bonnie by the neck and pry her off the ring. Holding on with one hand she could not get to the platform and earned five points. Shanay came on strong, pulling a suprise move of swing up to avoid Fury, and then making a quick move past her to the platform to earn ten points.
The Pyramid was the next men’s competion. Jeff and Wolf were paired wile Molivann faced off with Titan. Jeff once again showed his trash talking skills before the event began. The gladiators dominated this event throwing both competitors down the pyramid several times, keeping either from getting into the scoring zone. This competition was very physical and one of the best of the evening.
Hit and Run was the next even for the women facing off against Stealth, Crush, Siren, and Fury. Shanay used a different tactic dodging the first demolitoin ball then crawling the rest of the way across, standing to run to the platform at the end. On her second trip across the bridge, she crab walked part of the way, but stood up just in time to take a solid hit and earning a trip into the water. Bonnie fared not as well, trying to shrug off a hit with a demolition ball but also taking a trip into the water.
Facing off in the Eliminator, the men were first into this obsticle course. With only a one-half second start, Jeff was first to start with Molivann right on his heels. Both getting up over the wall and into the water at nearly the same time, Jeff had to come up for a second breath of air causing him to fall behind. They both got up the cargo net at nearly the same time, down the barrel roll, and over the balance bar. Jeff fell from the hand bike giving Molivann a lead he never gave up. Falling on the travelator sealed Jeff’s second place finish as Molivann crashed through the wall to win the competition. The women’s run on this course started them also with only a one-half second difference. Bonnie was quickly up and over the rope wall as was Shanay. Going into the water, Bonnie struck her head on a bar of the frame supporting the fire. Seemingly dazed, she headed back under water after a few seconds, but Shanay had gained a significant lead. When Bonnie got to the hand bike, she could be seen to be bleeding from the forehead, but fell from the hand bikes. Shanay was first to get through the wall claiming victory for the night, Bonnie fighting her way through the finish several seconds behind.
Be sure to tune in Monday night at 8PM EST for the second round of American Gladiators on your NBC station!!
Welcome to Reality TV Magazine’s coverage of American Gladiators!!
In 1989 America was introduced to a new show, American Gladiator. Reminiscent of the gladiator games of ancient Rome, without the loser having to worry about getting a thumbs down, this show pitted contestants against gladiators in a variety of challenges. Who can forget Blaze, Laser, Diamond, Viper, Elektra, and the other similarly monikered gladiators who kept us thrilled by their antics. Many times even being preferred than the men and woman who entered the arena to challenge them! Sadly, this show ended in 1996 after six seasons.
On January 6, this show is being revived! With hosts Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali a new group of Gladiators are going to thrill us as they work to defeat modern day contestants. These gladiators will keep the tradition of having unique names to identify them. The show will start with them evenly split between men and women, seven of each.
