Who Will Win American Inventor?

We had high hopes for Simon Cowell’s American Inventor show.  We thought the show would grow stronger as it got closer to the finale, but the exact opposite has happened.  While the show did succeed in finding four inventors that viewers can really relate to and form a bond with, there has been way too much filler time in the show.  In two hours that was half-filled by another unnecessary recap show, the final four American Inventors produced commercials about their inventions and presented them to the judges for review.

American Inventor: Ed Hall & Janusz Liberkowski Advance To The Final Four

Safety_seatIn a special two hour American Inventor, Peter Jones and Doug Hall each mentor three inventors before selecting one each to move forward in the competition.  Peter Jones mentors Bobby Amore, who is the inventor of the Tonerbelt; Jodi Pliszka, who is the inventor of The Headliner; and Ed Hall, who is the inventor of the Word Ace.  Peter advises Bobby that he needs to make his belt idiot-proof, advises Jodi that she needs to expand her product market, and advises Ed to make his game fun.

American Inventor: Francisco Patino Is A Pure Inventor

Francisco_bikeMary Lou Quinlan mentors Jerry Wesley, Darla Davenport-Powell, and Francisco Patino.  Mary Lou Quinlan advises Darla to bring her Niya doll into the 21st Century, Francisco to work on safety issues for his double traction bike, and Jerry to make his EZ-X product easier for everyone to use.  Darla gets frustrated with her design team because she doesn’t feel they have had much success in finding the voice of Niya.  Francisco struggles with deciding if his audience should be teenagers or parents with kids.  Jerry struggles to deliver his lines for his commercial for his EZ-X.

American Inventor: Erik Thompson Advances To Final Four

Erik_thompsonTo narrow the final twelve down to the final four, American Inventor is having each judge work with three inventors and then select one inventor to go forward.  The first three inventors to face elimination are Erik Thompson, Sheryl McDonald, and Mark Martinez.  Judge Ed Evangelista spends time with each inventor, giving them advice on their inventions.

The American Inventor Twelve Finalists Are…

Francisco_patinoAfter twenty minutes of unnecessary recaps, the top 50 American Inventors each get one minute to pitch their inventions again to the judges.  The first couple of inventors struggle through their presentations, exasperating the judges.  Doug Hall tells the other judges, “Guys, we have a real problem here.  This is embarrassing, they don’t get it, they’re not selling it.”  (If Doug had wanted passion, then perhaps he shouldn’t have turned away BulletBall.)
