Survivor would not be Survivor without Jeff Probst. American Idol would not be American Idol without Simon Cowell. Amazing Race would not be Amazing Race without Phil Keoghan. There are times when a host or judge for a reality show becomes such an integral part of the show that viewers cannot imagine the show without them. This season Dave Navarro has taken on that role with Rock Star.
On the recent Rock Star Supernova results show, the shocking elimination of Ryan Star drew boos from the studio audience. In a video interview on MSN, Ryan Star fired back at Supernova. Ryan said “With me as their singer, they could have had a twenty year career, without me they won’t have twenty years, they might have two years, so I said I’m sorry for that, meaning sorry for you.”
The entire country of Iceland appears to be rallying behind Rock Star Supernova contestant Magni Asgeirsson. On the last Rock Star results show, Magni was the only one of the final six rock singers that didn’t fall into the bottom three during the entire period of voting. Iceland Review reports on the great lengths that Magni’s home country is going to in order to keep him in the competition.
American Idol had its Chris Daughtry, now Rock Star Supernova has its Ryan Star. Ryan Star’s elimination is proving to be so controversial that his fans are turning to the Internet in massive numbers to express their outrage and demand a do over. Just like with Chris Daughtry, there is a voting controversy. Several Reality TV Magazine readers have commented about a problem with the online voting system at Rockstar.MSN.com.
Back at the mansion, the rock stars discuss who will be in the bottom three. Dave Navarro congratulates the rock stars on the best performance show they’ve ever had. Dave Navarro asks Storm Large how she would feel if she was in the bottom three, and she replies that she would feel good because she would get to kick the snot out of something. Dave Navarro asks Magni how he liked the In Touch photo shoot, and Magni says he hated it.
Back at the mansion, emotions run high about the things Dilana said about the other rock stars in her press interview. In frustration, Dilana smashes a glass that bounces up and cuts Magni in the face. Ryan Star says that some people can’t handle being on top and it’s like she is self-destructing. Dave Navarro asks Dilana how she is feeling going into tonight’s performance, and Dilana says “Nobody’s perfect, we all stumble, and I fell really hard, but I’m back, stronger than I was before, and I love my friends and I’ll never ever do anything to hurt them ever again.”
Even though it’s still up in the air as to who will be fronting Supernova, the band’s three founding members, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke announced they will be inaugurating their band with a 27-city concert tour across North America. Kicking off at the Hard Rock in Miami, Florida on January 16th and culminating at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California on February 27th, Supernova’s very first gig will be on New Year’s Eve at The Joint in Las Vegas. Tickets go on sale nationally for Supernova’s first concert tour on Wednesday, August 30th. The tour is being produced by Live Nation.
After last night’s performance show, Dilana tells Ryan Star that he would have been nothing without the house band. Dilana follows it up by telling Ryan that she is getting more votes than him because she’s given everything she had from week one. After reading a fan comment that maybe Dilana and Ryan Star could front Supernova together, Dilana’s response is “over my dead body.” Dave Navarro asks Dilana if she might be just a little bit threatened by Ryan as the darkhorse, and her response is that she’s not threatened and is doing her 100% best. Ryan Star says that when you’re on top like Dilana and you speak down to the people below you it shows disrespect.
The rock stars fight over the right to do an original song. Patrice Pike gets one of the originals because she’s been in the bottom three for three times. Ryan Star and Storm Large fight over the second original, and Storm finally gives in and decides to do Cryin’ instead. Dilana and Toby Rand argue over who gets to sing “Every Breath You Take,” and Dilana runs around the pool naked in order to get the song.
Back at the mansion, the male rock singers discuss Storm Large’s fate after receiving harsh criticism from the judges. Lukas Rossi thinks that she will wind up in the bottom three. The rock stars are also assigned the task of learning a brand new Supernova track. Based on how well the rock stars did with the track, Supernova selects Dilana to perform an original Supernova song called “Leave The Lights On” with them.
