The best thing about So You Think You Can Dance is seeing contestants expand beyond their comfort zone and excel. The worst thing is listening to Nigel Lythgoe drone on about growth while defending his decision to allow less than stellar dancers to stick around while better contestants go home. Suffice to say, tonight’s episode exemplified both the best and the worst of the show.
Believe it or not, So You Think You Can Dance has been around for ten years. This means that several of this season’s Top 20 contestants were still little kids when Nick Lazzarini was crowned as the show’s very first champion. Tonight, SYTYCD will pay homage to Nick and all the other amazing contestants who followed, while also highlighting the star power of the current Top 20.
So You Think You Can Dance’s Top 20 dancers have been revealed, which means that it is now time to say goodbye to these talented performers one by one (or, rather, two by two). This time, however, the judges will not be entirely responsible for the early eliminations. Instead, it’s up to America to decide who stays and who goes.
So You Think You Can Dance has offered up brief hints of the Street Versus Stage fun that is to come, but the concept wasn’t fully realized during the show’s several audition episodes. Perhaps, now that we’re finally in Top 20 mode, the new format will actually manage to capture the audience’s interest. The judges, unfortunately, are as boring as ever, with Paula Abdul whining about costuming decisions and Jason Derulo reduced to using such descriptors as “beasty.”
The new Street Versus Stage twist on So You Think You Can Dance has given the show a completely different dynamic, although it remains to be seen whether that is a good or a bad thing. One positive is that the new format has allowed for even more diversity on the show, as Team Street mentor Twitch was quick to acknowledge in his latest blog post.
The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: the big reveal of this season’s Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance. First, however, the show’s fans will have to watch as those who made it through the first through rounds in Vegas are subjected to even more challenges. Who will rise to the occasion — and who will be sent packing?
Everybody is super excited to see the return of shirtless Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL, but he is by no means the only good-looking guy attracting attention. So You Think You Can Dance’s Twitch is also heating up the movie with his impressive physique and his hot dance moves. As far as his Facebook fans are concerned, there’s no such thing as too much Twitch!
Several truly amazing dancers showed up for this year’s round of auditions, but now, Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo must determine who is good enough for the Top 20. And this is no ordinary Top 20 — it consists of half street dancers and half stage dancers! Who will make the cut…and who will be sent packing?
Nigel Lythgoe knows a thing or two about reality television — after all, he’s heavily involved with So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol. Although he’s appreciative of several additional reality shows, the SYTYCD judge is especially impressed with Survivor.
New York is a haven for dancers, and as such, today’s round of tryouts on So You Think You Can Dance should be nothing short of spectacular. Unfortunately, the show still insists on including subpar auditions — these certainly weren’t lacking tonight!
