So You Think You Can Dance: Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval
All-Star Season 3 Top 8
Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval
The forever-lovable jokester D-trix started b-boying in 1999, at age 13, often practicing with his friends in the garage. He joined his hometown crew, Flexible Flav, and in 2000-2001 they worked their way into touring. In 2005 and 2006 D-trix traveled with Flexible Flav, winning competitions in various countries around the world.
When shows such as SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and “America’s Best Dance Crew” hit the airwaves, doors for dancers really began to open. In 2007, at age 21, D-trix won a spot on SYTYCD. Just hoping to get a little airtime and have his solo audition shown on TV, he was pleasantly surprised to make it past the L.A. rounds. The show started in March, so in January D-trix took some dance classes to learn more about hip-hop and choreography. After placing in the Top 8, he was invited to tour with the show. D-trix joined Quest Crew in December 2007, and the crew placed first in “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew.” Having known Victor from the neighborhood and being in the same breaking crew earlier, and having met Hok a year before SYTYCD, it was just a coincidence that these guys all ended up auditioning for the same show. Many of them have known one another for quite some time. The guys of Quest say they all get along so well it makes work seem like play.
D-trix represents Quest Crew, Stepboyz Entertainment, and Flexible Flav. Currently, he travels and performs with Quest Crew across the world, holding workshops as well. Since becoming a finalist on SYTYCD and placing first on “America’s Best Dance Crew,” he’s had the opportunity to dance for a variety of celebrities, including Ellen, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Pitbull, Sean Kingston and Donna Summer. He’s also worked in such movies as “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” and “Freakdance.” In his down time, he says he likes to play golf and ping-pong and eat Spam while listening to Justin Bieber.
